Deena is the mother of three amazing sons. Her journey began in 2013 when she found out her twins were gay. Deena’s background is primarily in social services and customer service. She is passionate about creating a safe place and showing love to the LGBTQ+ community.
Aaron Rhodes has been a part of Love on a Mission for 3 years. The reason he joined Love on a Mission is because he wanted to help create a space for young people to feel loved and validated. Aaron thinks that Love on a Mission is important because in rural states like Ohio you can sometimes feel isolated and alone as a young LGBTQ+ person. He remembers not seeing anything like this growing up and is thrilled to be a part of the growing visibility and tolerance for our community here in Ohio.
Matthew Sours has been a part of the board for 3 years. Matthew joined Love On a Mission because being a local and not having any support or resources going up in Ashland was difficult in finding himself and wanted to be a part of a nonprofit that gives back to the youth he wished he had. Love on a Mission is important to Matthew because he was extremely bullied in school and didn’t have a safe space to then to. Matthew has had a salon in the Ashland area for over 8 yrs and and is passionate about helping people find beauty in themselves and being a light in many different ways. Matthew also enjoys sharing his own journey to help shed light on other’s own personal walks though life.

Kim Corwin has been a part of Love on a Mission for 3 years. The reason she joined the Love on a Mission team is that she wanted to help bring understanding to our small community through education and love. Kim thinks that Love on a Mission is important because we can help bring love and acceptance to a beautiful community by leading by example, hearts can change and minds can be opened even in less accepting areas. Aside from helping to support LGBTQ+ youth through LOAM Kim enjoys spending time with family and working with adults with Developmental Disabilities.
Spencer Jones has been a part of Love on a Mission for 2 years. The reason they joined the Love on a Mission team is that he hopes to provide LGBTQ+ youth a place where they can feel free to be themselves, accepted, and unconditionally loved. Spencer thinks that Love on a Mission is important because he feels that everyone has the right to have a safe space where they can feel free to express themselves and be loved as they are. Aside from helping to support LGBTQ+ youth through LOAM Spencer enjoys his job as a teacher, going on runs, and reading a good book.
Derek Messenger has been a part of Love on a Mission for 1 year. The reason he joined the Love on a Mission is that he wants to help give back to the LGBTQ+ community the love and support he received throughout his journey. Derek thinks that Love on a Mission is important because, in a time of so much hate and negativity, Love on a Mission sends out a message of love and acceptance.
